Rosen Method Movement
RosenDance

Rosen Method Movement is about being aware of our body moving, sensing/feeling our body moving, staying in our body as we move. More than a "work-out", a Rosen Method Movement class is a "work-in". A wide variety of wonderful music supports the tempo and the intention of each movement. As we move to music, we reawaken the dancer within, we rediscover the joy of moving. I call it our RosenDance class.

For a detailed description of my one-hour Movement class, or RosenDance class, in Berkeley, CA, click here to read my article recently published in the magazine Conscious Dancer, issue # 17, winter 2011.

The Method

The Rosen Method of Movement is a simple form taught by Movement teachers leading :

  • Weekly group classes
  • Daily classes during Bodywork Intensives
  • Rosen Method Movement Intensives ( 5 days focused on Rosen Method movements )

The form "moving-to-music" includes a repertoire of simple, non-strenuous movements, i.e. stretching, bending, rocking, tilting, twisting, lifting, circling, hugging, bouncing, etc... addressing:

  • The full range of motion for major joints
  • The expansion of the chest and the rib cage
  • The releasing of the diaphragm muscle
  • The awareness of the free natural breath
  • The lengthening of all muscles
  • The experience of relaxation in movement
  • The experience of moving from inside out

The Benefits

As we "move-to-music," we witness and allow:

  • New space opening up inside
  • New patterns of movements and alignement manifesting
  • Rekindled curiosity for inner explorations
  • The re-awakening of the mover/dancer we were once as uninhibited children
  • The joy bubbling out of our core self
  • The potential for creativity emerge
  • The birth of a sacred space for our own personal dance to the music that inspires us
