Movement

The Rosen Method of Movement is about turning our attention inside , bringing our awareness to the inner body as we "move-to-music."

As the bodyworker's "touch" facilitates opening and releasing through the layers of chronic tension, so does the practice of moving consciously. Specific movements done to specific music "touch" our layers of holdings, releasing them, allowing us to access our core self, source of joy and "deep play."

The Method

The Rosen Method of Movement is a simple form taught by Movement teachers leading :

  • Weekly group classes
  • Daily classes during Bodywork Intensives
  • Rosen Method Movement Intensives ( 5 days focused on Rosen Method movements )

The form "moving-to-music" includes a repertoire of simple, non-strenuous movements, i.e. stretching, bending, rocking, tilting, twisting, lifting, circling, hugging, bouncing, etc... addressing:

  • The full range of motion for major joints
  • The expansion of the chest and the rib cage
  • The releasing of the diaphragm muscle
  • The awareness of the free natural breath
  • The lengthening of all muscles
  • The experience of relaxation in movement
  • The experience of moving from inside out

The Process

As we "move-to-music," we witness and allow:

  • New space opening up inside
  • New patterns of movements and alignement manifesting
  • Rekindled curiosity for inner explorations
  • The re-awakening of the mover/dancer we were once as uninhibited children
  • The joy bubbling out of our core self
  • The potential for creativity emerge
  • The birth of a sacred space for our own personal dance to the music that inspires us

"'Deep Play:' 1. A state of unselfconscious engagement with our surroundings. 2. An exalted zone of transcendence over time. 3. A state of optimal creative capacity."
