Who We Are

The Rosen Method Open Center is a team of teachers and practitioners who share the same intention to serve our current communities and offer training in new communities.

We live in different parts of the country and come together to teach Workshops and Intensives in different states. We started teaching in North Carolina in 1998. Since then we have expanded our programs to Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New York state. We are open to teaching where we are called.

I was born and raised in France where I completed my MA in Clinical Psychology. In 1971, I went to India and had a Kundalini awakening, through direct touch that changed my life and the focus of my quest. I landed in my body and realized its sacredness as the locus of the divine within. I would spend the next 12 years deepening this initial experience steeped in the practices of meditation, yoga, chanting, and Indian and Sufi dance. Eventually I needed to integrate the teachings of western psychology with the body's revelations. That is when I moved to Berkeley, California where I encountered what I was looking for: Rosen Method bodywork and movement. Since 1989, I have been in private practice in Berkeley, CA, and since 1996 I have been teaching Rosen Method programs in the US and Europe. Along with Rosen Method, I continue to practice meditation, yoga, Continuum movement and dance to stay connected to the inner Self.

In the mid-seventies I began exploring the body-emotion-mind connection through Release Technique, Vipassana meditation and Contact Improvisation. I also discovered Rosen Method and moved to Berkeley to complete the Rosen Training. For the last 17 years I have had a full-time Rosen Method practice in New York City. I teach monthly practicums, supervise interns and am apprenticing with Odile Atthalin to become a senior teacher. I am also a Rosen Method Movement teacher and a mother. My work is nourished by my love of the dharma and my experience of the possibility for people to transform through receiving kind touch and close attention.

Certified Rosen Method Bodywork Practitioner

When I began as a Rosen practitioner in Northampton MA ten years ago, my previous career had been as a visual artist and art instructor. Over time, I have come to appreciate how Rosen Method and art are two similar ways of knowing. Like any creative discipline, Rosen Work develops focus for staying with each moment of feeling. Being a co-teacher gives me an occasion to deepen my faith in the value of the practice of awareness. It is gratifying to be able to be with people as they experience the field of spaciousness that we all share. I feel fortunate to contribute to the Open Center's efforts in advancing this transformative work.

I am a filmmaker as well as a Rosen Practitioner, and my background includes a B.A. in the Humanities from Yale University and an M.F.A in Filmmaking from NYU. I take great delight in the ability of the Rosen Method to dissolve the ways in which many of us are denied our creativity and fullness of heart by old patterns of fear and hurt. I am also deeply interested in exploring issues of otherness, including the effects of racial, cultural and class differences, and the impact of mental illness. It is a joy to touch and be touched in this profound and nourishing way.

"Service rests on the basic premise that the nature of life is sacred... Fundamentally, helping, fixing, and service are ways of seeing life. When you help, you see life as weak. When you fix, you see life as broken. When you serve, you see life as whole. From the perspective of service, we are all connected. All suffering is like my suffering and all joy is like my joy... Service goes beyond expertise. Service is another way of life. Service is a relationship between equals... In helping, we may find a sense of satisfaction; in servicing, we have an experience of gratitude... When we serve, we discover that life is holy... Service is closer to generosity than it is to duty... Over the long run, fixing and helping are draining but service is renewing. When you serve, your work itself will sustain you, renew you, and bless you, often over many years."
